What this package installs
| Component | Purpose |
|---|---|
| PostgreSQL + pgvector | A dedicated database for MAIA, with vector-search support. The service is named MAIA-Postgres. |
| Python and bundled libraries | The runtime and dependencies used by MAIA’s supported Python features. |
| Configuration handoff | A protected prerequisites.env file containing database connection values and installed Python paths. |
This package does not install the MAIA application, configure your AI provider or set up the SDP proxy. Use All-in-One if you want a guided new Windows deployment covering all those stages.
The installer copies runtime files and may create or update database roles and credentials. It is not a PostgreSQL major-version upgrade or a replacement for the MAIA application updater. If MAIA-Postgres or the target cluster already exists, consult your DBA before rerunning it. Do not point it at the ServiceDesk Plus database directory.
1. Prepare and verify
- Use Windows x64 and PowerShell as Administrator.
- Choose a dedicated new target, such as
C:\MAIA-Prerequisites, outside the MAIAcurrentdirectory. - Check that port 5433 is available, or choose a different port and use it consistently.
- If an existing database or Python environment meets requirements, do not reinstall it blindly.
- Download the Windows prerequisites ZIP and its manifest/signature from the downloads page.
Compare the exact file’s published SHA-256:
Get-FileHash .\mwtsolutions-maia-prerequisites-windows-1.1.0.zip -Algorithm SHA256Extract outside the destination directory. Open the resulting prerequisites directory; keep its signed manifest and all runtime folders together.
Verify the signed prerequisite payload with MAIA-MAINTENANCE
The prerequisites ZIP does not include MAIA-MAINTENANCE. Use the executable from the matching Windows application ZIP or All-in-One package. Example paths:
& "D:\MAIA-Releases\1.1.0\update\MAIA-MAINTENANCE.exe" check `
--package "D:\MAIA-Releases\prerequisites-1.1.0\prerequisites"This verifies the package without installing it. Use the baseline maintenance executable on hardware without AVX2. Adjust paths and version to your actual files.
2. Choose components and run
The launcher invokes the bundled PowerShell installer. Right-click install-prerequisites.bat and choose Run as administrator, or use the explicit command below from the extracted prerequisites directory.
The standalone prerequisites installer does not provide the application updater’s read-only preflight or a confirmation for every stage. Review the target, service and port first. It defaults to both components, C:\MAIA-Prerequisites and port 5433.
PostgreSQL and Python
.\install-prerequisites.ps1 -Target "C:\MAIA-Prerequisites" `
-Port 5433 -Components "postgres,python"PostgreSQL only
.\install-prerequisites.ps1 -Target "C:\MAIA-Prerequisites" `
-Port 5433 -Components "postgres"Python only
.\install-prerequisites.ps1 -Target "C:\MAIA-Prerequisites" `
-Components "python"Use the PowerShell parameters shown here, including -Target, -Port and -Components. The batch file only forwards parameters; do not rely on older examples using GNU-style double-dash options.
For a fresh PostgreSQL cluster, the script generates a password when none is supplied. For an existing cluster without saved credentials, it asks for the superuser password. Do not put passwords on the command line, into screenshots or public logs.
The script copies the selected runtimes, initializes a new cluster when needed, registers/starts MAIA-Postgres, prepares the pgvector database and vector extension, then tests the selected Python runtime. Successful completion prints [SUCCESS] and saves prerequisites.env.
3. Keep the database and credentials protected
A fresh cluster listens on 127.0.0.1 by default and uses password authentication. This is a local MAIA database, not the SDP database. Remote database access requires a deliberate DBA/firewall configuration; do not simply expose port 5433 to the Internet.
The current script configures the pgvector role with elevated database privileges. Have your DBA review that scope before production use. The read-only maia_ro role used for SDP access is a different account and purpose.
The installer attempts to restrict access to Administrators and SYSTEM. Verify the file’s permissions. Read it only in a protected local session when entering the connection settings in MAIA. Never upload it to the website, send it in ordinary email or replace the application’s existing .env with it.
4. Verify the selected components
Only check the components you actually installed. These examples assume the default directory and port.
PostgreSQL and pgvector
Get-Service MAIA-Postgres
& "C:\MAIA-Prerequisites\pgsql\bin\psql.exe" `
-h 127.0.0.1 -p 5433 -U pgvector -d pgvector -W -c "SELECT 1;"
& "C:\MAIA-Prerequisites\pgsql\bin\psql.exe" `
-h 127.0.0.1 -p 5433 -U pgvector -d pgvector -W `
-c "SELECT extversion FROM pg_extension WHERE extname = 'vector';"Expect Running, a successful SELECT 1 and a vector extension version. -W prompts for the password rather than placing it in command history.
Python
& "C:\MAIA-Prerequisites\python\python.exe" --version
& "C:\MAIA-Prerequisites\python\python.exe" -m pip --version
& "C:\MAIA-Prerequisites\python\python.exe" -c "import sklearn, pandas, numpy, lightgbm, psycopg2; import pgvector.psycopg2; print('PYTHON_OK')"Expect the runtime and pip versions and PYTHON_OK. If a test fails, preserve the installer error and investigate before continuing. Do not reinstall over a running cluster to troubleshoot.
5. Continue with MAIA
Install the application using the installation guide, then finish the WebUI Setup Wizard. Use the database values and Python path from the protected prerequisites file in the supported MAIA configuration. Keep the database/runtime target outside the replaceable application payload.
For an existing MAIA installation, follow the upgrade guide; application updates do not require rerunning the prerequisites installer. For help, contact MAIA Plus at stanislaw.rogasik@maiaplus.eu.
